Who would have ever thought that a small Tae Kwon Do club in central South Dakota could train 62 black belts.   Well, apparently Master Dennis Hook.  As part of testing for black belt, each candidate must prepare an essay about their goals in Tae Kwon Do.  Here is the essay submitted by Dennis Hook when he tested for his First Dan Black Belt.

Black Belt Testing

Brookings, South Dakota

April 24, 1987

The possibility of my wearing the Black Belt means a new beginning of learning and dedication.  It means fulfilling a promise that I made to myself, my children, and the parents and students of the Pierre Tae Kwon Do club.  That promise was to do whatever I could to keep the club going in Pierre.  It also makes partial payment for the trust, support, and encouragement that was given me over the past four years by Master Holsing and Ms. Heidi Werthmann.  Every thread of that belt will be dedicated to them and to the team members who have endured through some tough years of all pulling together through the problems when we were all learning and growing at the same time to make the dream of Tae Kwon Do in Pierre come true.  It will also mean that I have overcome some personal and physical problems.  I will never be able to endow my children or community with my earthly riches, but I feel through Tae Kwon Do, I am leaving them with much more a spirit, a way of life, and a will that we can overcome the problems set before us.  This will be my legacy.  If granted the Black Belt, I can start chapter II of having a part in making some of the finest Black Belts that South Dakota has ever seen from the students ranks of the Pierre team.
